Q. How do SmartBin solutions save money?
SmartBin solutions save in many ways.
Firstly, SmartBin solutions save by reducing, in many cases dramatically, the number of services visits required. This is achieved by providing the information that allows the implementation of a management system that ENSURES that BINS ARE ONLY COLLECTED WHEN THEY ARE FULL, or nearly full. Thus, it is possible to eliminate all service visits that occur when the bins are only partially full. Even more, SmartBin also generates alarms and alerts when the BIN is critically full, ensuring that the problems associated with OVERFLOWING BINS CAN BE ELIMINATED, reducing the cost of site cleanup, etc.
Secondly, SmartBin ensures that the fixed cost infrastructure associated with the collection of waste and the processing of incoming waste can be more efficiently managed, beacuse the volumes are more predictable.
Thirdly, the auditing capabilities inherent in SmartBin's solution allow the Service process to be managed more efficiently.Fourtly, the range of KPIs presented on the SmartBin Live website allows users to optimize the utilization of their bin assets (optimizing Service Efficiencies)
Fifthly, the Route Planning capabilities allows users to optimize their selected routes (optimizing Trip Efficiencies)
Q. How much will I save with Smartbin?
That depends on your application and the quantity of bins under management. But Smartbin can show you several examples of savings ranging from 25% to 50% and more! These savings are for collection costs only, and do not include the many other less obvious benefits accruing from audit trails, etc......and the huge benefits that derive from being able to expand your own business without any additional capital expenditure!!

Q. How does your solution measure fill-level?
Our solution measures bin fill-level by using infrared or ultrasonic technology sensors that determine the distance from the top of the waste to the top of the bin container. However, our sensors use intelligent processing to eliminate the errors associated with random blocking events. Our sensors have been proven to be extremely reliable and rugged in a large number of applications.
Sensor accuracy is improved by using variable angle radiation envelopes, depending on the type of technology. Sensor accuracy is also improved by using the appropriate technology for the material being measured. For example, wet or soft materials are not compatible with ultrasonic technologies, and in this case we can use infrared measurement technologies. Whatever your material, our experts can specify the appropriate off-the- shelf Smartbin sensor to work in your application.Q. How often do you sense the fill-level?
Measurements are made every hour, that's 24 times a day. Messages are sent to the SmartBinLive web portal, either once per day or when the Sensor detects that the bin is nearly full.
Of course, all of this is configurable via the SmartBinLive web portal, subject to some commercial limitations.
Q. Do I need to install software?
No. Our service is offered online. There is no software to install. If you can access the internet, you can use our service. In fact, if you can use a cellphone or receive emails, you can use our solution to received alerts and alarms as appropriate to the efficient management of your waste portfolio.
Q. What IT hardware specs are required to operate your system?
There are no IT hardware requirements necessary! If you can access the internet, you can use our system.
Q. How does your sensor communicate with your Host Server?
The Smartbin sensor communicates with the Host Server over the cellular network, through cellular network providers selected by Smartbin for best local coverage. In the unlikely event of the selected network provider not being available, the sensors automatically switch to an alternative network. All of this is entirely transparent to our customers.
Q. Do I need to set up an account with a celluar network provider?
No! All system communications is handled by the mobile telemetry experts at Smartbin, and all standard communications costs are included in the monthly subscription fee. Our customers do not have to worry about any of these matters.
Q. What else can your bin sensor measure?
In addition to Bin Fill-Level and Bin Empty Events, the sensors measurea a range of other variables which assist in diagnostics. Here is a sample of the parameters that can be measured and reported back to our Host Server.
- Bin Fill Level
- Bin Empty Events
- Battery Level
- Cellular Signal Strength
